WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2020 – Age Limit, Qualifications & Domicile Criteria

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board conducts entrance examinations for admission to engineering/pharmaceutical/architectural/technology courses offered by colleges in West Bengal. Government colleges, few self-financing colleges, and private universities have WBJEE as their entrance gateway. Candidates on achieving above a cut off score and rank will be allotted seats in preferred colleges based on counseling procedure.

WBJEE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

  • Domicile Criteria:
  1. Only Indian citizens residing in West Bengal can apply to this exam
  2. Other state candidates will not be allowed to use to WBJEE
  3. Candidates with more than 10-year stay in West Bengal are eligible for individual reservation quota and policies
  4. Candidates applying for the particular allowance are expected to produce a domicile certificate

  • Community:
  1. Candidates can apply to individual quota reservations if he/she belongs to SC/ST/PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B classes
  2. If the Candidate is availing the community-based reservation, it is mandatory to include certificates stating the same while applying to WBJEE

  • Age Limit:
  1. The lower age limit for WBJEE 2020 is 17 years, i.e., the Candidate should be of age 17 as on 31.12.2019
  2. There are no upper limit age restrictions for all the courses except for marine engineering
  3. Candidates aspiring for maritime engineering courses have an upper age limit of 25 years as on December 31, 2019
  • Number of Attempts:
  1. Luckily there are no restrictions on the number of attempts a candidate can take at writing WBJEE
  • JEE Exceptions:
  1. Candidates with a valid JEE Main score and cut off have an exemption from writing WBJEE
  2. JEE Main aspirants with their correct cut off score and rank can directly apply for the counseling process
  • Academic Qualification
  1. Generic rule of qualifying 12th standard exam in West Bengal from government recognized board is mandatory for applying to WBJEE 2020
  2. However, there are separate eligibility criteria based on the admission to engineering/pharmacy courses

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Courses:

Candidates who fulfill the below-mentioned criteria can only apply to engineer courses

  • All the Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, mathematics, and chemistry as the main subject
  • An aggregate of 45% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory for general category students
  • An aggregate of 40% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is compulsory for other category students
  • A minimum of 30% marks should be obtained in English subject

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria for Pharmacy Courses:

Candidates who fulfill the below-mentioned criteria can only apply to pharmacy courses

  • Candidate sincerely must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics /biology as the main subject
  • An aggregate of 45% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology is mandatory for general category students
  • A total of 40% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology is compulsory for other category students
  • A minimum of 30% marks should be obtained in English subject
  • Candidates from Open schooling systems will not be allowed to appear for WBJEE

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria for Architecture Courses:

Candidates who fulfill the below-mentioned criteria can only apply to architecture courses

  • Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as the main subject
  • An aggregate of 50% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory for all category students
  • Institute Specific Eligibility Criteria

Apart from the criteria mentioned above, there are few institutes with courses as per specific norms and regulations. This section briefs on the list of institutes and their rules.

  • University of Calcutta
  1. Special norms for Jute and Fibre Technology course – The Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as main subjects
  2. An aggregate of 60% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology is mandatory for general category students
  3. A sum of 50% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology is compulsory for other category students
  4. A minimum of 30% marks should be obtained in English subject
  • Jadavpur University
  1. The Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as main subjects in regular mode for engineering courses
  2. An aggregate of 60% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory for general category students for engineering courses
  3. A total of 45% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is compulsory for other category students for engineering courses
  4. A minimum of 30% marks should be obtained in English subject
  5. An aggregate of 50% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory for general category students for architecture courses
  6. A total of 37% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is compulsory for other category students for architecture courses
  7. Candidates must have qualified either of National Aptitude Test in Architecture test conducted by Council of Architecture, Delhi, or Paper 2 of JEE Mains conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education
  • West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences
  1. The general category candidate must have qualified 12th standard with an aggregate of 50% in physics, chemistry, and mathematics and English
  2. The broad category candidate must have qualified 12th standard with a total of 40% in physics, chemistry, and mathematics and English
  • Neotia University
  1. The Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as main subjects in regular mode for marine engineering course
  2. An aggregate of 60% marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory for marine engineering course irrespective of categories
  3. 50% of marks in English is compulsory for marine engineering course irrespective of categories
  4. An aggregate of 60% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology is necessary for pharmacy course irrespective of categories
  5. A total of 60% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology/computer science is compulsory for other engineering courses irrespective of categories
  • Aliah University
  1. An individual score of 100 marks in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is mandatory
  • Sister Nivedita University
  1. For admissions to Computer Science and Business Systems, the Candidate must have qualified 12th standard with physics, chemistry, and mathematics with 60% individually and in aggregate

Ensuring eligibility criteria only provides the Candidate to appear in WBJEE 2020, while for seat allotments, the Candidate needs to achieve a score above the cut-off score. Based on the added ranks obtained, the candidates will be called upon through counseling procedures for seat allotment.

Additional Information on Eligibility Criteria

  • Information provided by the Candidate will not be cross-checked, and any changes cannot be entertained post the time period given for changes if any
  • Admit cards will contain information provided by the Candidate and any discrepancy will not consider the Candidate to write the exam
  • As per directions from Director General of Shipping, Government of India, the candidates must have qualified 12th standard with an aggregate of 60% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry for admission to marine engineering courses
  • Candidates residing in West Bengal for at least ten years or whose parents are permanent residents of West Bengal are considered to be eligible
  • Special concessions are given to PwD candidates – a 40% reduction in the application fee, extra 20 minutes in each paper of WBJEE, scribe for visually impaired candidates to write for your WBJEE eligibility criteria.
