The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board has been conducting WBJEE since 2012 to admit candidates to educational institutes that impart medical, engineering, and technological courses. For the academic year of 2020-21, WBJEE 2020 is being conducted for admissions to undergraduate courses in engineering and technology, architecture and pharmacy courses. Through WBJEE and its e-counseling, aspirants get admitted to government colleges, private universities, and self-financing colleges in West Bengal.

Eligibility for Taking WBJEE 2020

  1. Only citizens of India are allowed to take this exam.
  2. The candidate should at least be 17 years old on 31.12.2020.
  3. The number of attempts is unlimited.
  4. There is no upper limit for age to appear in this exam except for the marine engineering course. The upper limit of 25 years as om 31.12.2019 is mandatory for candidates looking for maritime engineering courses.
  5. Candidates must have passed the 12th exam from the board recognized by the government with compulsory mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
  6. An aggregate cut off of 45% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry is required for the general category, and 40% for the rest of the classes is compulsory.
  7. The candidate must have passed the English board exam with at least a 30% score.

Applying to WBJEE 2020

Are you eligible for WBJEE 2020? Then you are to fill the application for the joint exam 2020 with utmost care. Any changes in the form after the last date window will not be entertained. Know the details of the application procedure for filling it in with accurate information.

  • It is mandatory to have a mobile number, and mail address since any communication from the board will be through registered mobile number and mail address
  • Keep information like residence address, category, PwD status, family income, religion and nationality handy
  • If the aspirant appears for JEE (Main), it is mandatory to enter the JEE application number as well
  • The photograph for the application should not contain dark/tinted spectacles
  • The fee for requests for candidates under different categories is different. Make sure you pay the right amount since the cost is not refundable under any circumstances

WBJEE Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: The exam will be conducted offline with OMR sheets
  • Paper pattern: The review will have two sessions

1. Forenoon – Mathematics

2. Afternoon – Physics and Chemistry combined

For admissions to engineering/technology/ architecture/pharmacy courses, it is compulsory to appear in both sessions. Candidates looking for only the afternoon session will be eligible for admission to pharmacy courses.

  • Duration: The exams will be of two hours each- Paper 1 (mathematics) from 11 am to 1 pm, Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry) from 2 pm to 4 pm

Scoring

Category 1

  • Will contain only one correct answer
  • Each and every correct answer will carry one mark, and the wrong answer will give .25 negative mark
  • Not attempted questions will be awarded zero marks
  • More than one answer to an item will be awarded .25 negative mark

Category 2

  • Will contain only one correct answer
  • Each correct answer will carry two marks, and the wrong answer will carry .5 negative mark
  • Not attempted questions will be awarded zero marks
  • More than one answer to an item will be awarded .5 negative mark

Category 3

  • Will contain one or more correct answer
  • Only all correct answer will carry two mark
  •  The wrong combination of solutions will give zero marks, and there is no negative marking in this section
  • Not attempted questions will be awarded zero marks
  • More than one answer to an item will be awarded .5 negative mark

Exam syllabus

It is advisable to cover the entire program to obtain a top-notch rank in the competitive exam. Paper 1 syllabus includes algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus. Paper two contains physics and chemistry.

Physics syllabus includes topics like measurements, gravity, current electricity, waves and oscillations, optics, nuclear physics, thermodynamics, viscosity, electrostatics, laws of motion and magnetics.

Chemistry paper includes questions from atoms and atomic structure, nuclear chemistry, the periodic table, molecular structure, stable and liquid state, chemical energetics, physical chemistry, metals, non-metallic components, surface chemistry, polymers, and inorganic chemistry.

WBJEE Exam centers

WBJEE will be conducted at various centers throughout the state. The exam will also be held in Assam and Tripura in addition to the native state. The test centers will be allotted based on the candidate’s 1st choice. But there could be chances that examination centers can be dropped or changed under unavoidable circumstances. Change in the allocation is the board’s discretion and will not be changed unless it is a certain case.

Some Useful Information

  1. Model answers will be uploaded on the official website shortly after the examination.
  2. The response on the OMR sheet will also be uploaded in two weeks after the examination
  3. Candidates can challenge the answer keys or revaluation by paying a fee of ₹500, which is non-refundable.
  4. The rank card will contain results about score obtained, total rank listed and paper wise scores
  5. Admissions and call for counseling will be based on cut off scores
  6. There are also cut off ranks, beyond which candidates will not be called in for the counseling process.
  7. Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme has been launched by the government to entertain meritorious students from the economically backward background. Only students from the native state are eligible for this scheme. Check the official website for more information on the waiver.
  8. There are also reserved seats for children of defense personnel in the defense quota seats. Securing a rank is mandatory for a place in this category. The allotment to these seats is not through counseling and will be announced before the counseling process.
  9. The reservation of seats to different categories differs based on the colleges. Each institute has its reservation quota.
  10. Each of the institutes also has its eligibility criteria. So make sure you are aware of them so that you can apply to the corresponding colleges with appropriate certificates along with the rank
  11. The General Merit Rank (GMR) admits you to all engineering/architecture/technology courses based on your performance in paper 1 and 2
  12. Pharmacy Merit List will be based on paper two performance, and the ranking will admit you to pharmacy courses.
  13. There are tie-breaking criteria between candidates who have secured the same rank. Check the official website for the rules of the tiebreaker.

  1. Carry ballpoint pens for darkening the OMR sheets.
  2. Report at the corresponding test centers well in advance to avoid any last-minute confusion. The candidates will not be entertained to write the exam in any other center other than the allotted one.
  3. Frisking will be carried out while entering the hall. Indulging in any impersonating will cause the candidate for the exam.
  4. The exam will be conducted only once a year.
