Performance in 12th Standard Board Examination
The candidate must attend at least one of the following two requirements in order to
qualify for JEE Advanced 2020:
- Should have managed to score an aggregate mark of at least 75% in the 12th
Standard (or equivalent) review. The cumulative scores must be at least 65% for
SC / ST / PWD.
- In their corresponding 12th standard board exam, candidates must be within the top 20 percentile (division-wise) of successful applicants.
It should also be observed that the scores obtained in the following five topics are considered in order to calculate the overall scores and the cutoff scores in order to meet the top 20 percentile
selection criteria:
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Language opted by the student(If there are more than one then the communication with higher scores will be considered)
- Any subject but the four mentioned above(a question that has the highest score will be taken into consideration)
Calculation Method of Total Scores for 12th Exam
- To calculate the total grades for five topics, if the ratings awarded in a particular subject are not over a hundred, then the scores will be adjusted (up or down) to 100 so that the total overall mark will be over five-hundred.
- If a board grants letter grades without presenting an equal percentage of scores on the grade sheet, then a board certificate stating the equivalent scores must be obtained by the applicant and submitted when the seat is allocated. If the candidate doesn’t provide the document, the Joint Implementation Committee will make the final judgment.
- In the case that any of the subjects Chemistry, Maths, Physics, and Language are not assessed in the final year, the scores from the previous year/s for the very same subject will be used to measure the percent of cumulative scores.
- Candidates who first participated in the 12th standard board examination in 2019 and appeared in all subjects in 2020 will need to note that they will consider the best of the two results.
- If a board does not disclose marks awarded in specific subjects, but only gives the cumulative scores, then the board will take the aggregate marks into consideration.
Cutoff for Top 20 Percentile
- Section-wise cutoff scores for the top 20 percentile are determined on the basis of the marks earned by the applicants who qualify in the specific year in their respective boards.
- Cut-off thresholds for PWD applicants for other classes would be the same as the lowest cut-off marks.
- For applicants who completed the 12th-grade exam in the same year, the top 20 percentile limit for the academic year 2020 will be regarded. Likewise, 2019 cutoff will be considered for the 2019 academic year candidates who qualified for the exam.
- Candidates who participated in the qualification test in 2019 for the very first time and intend to reappear in 2020 for the sole aim of qualifying for the top 20 percentile cutoff will have to try all the subjects again. For such applicants, the 2019 high 20 percentile threshold will be taken into consideration.
- In the event that a board doesn’t provide data on the top 20 percentile cut-off, the applicants will have to provide a certification from the relevant committee, indicating that it fits within the top 20 percentile of successful applicants.
Aggregate Scores of 75% (65% for ST/SC/PWD)
- The 12th standard board exam aggregate grades obtained in 2020 will be regarded for those applicants who meet the 12th standard in 2020.
- The cumulative results obtained by the candidates for the 12th Standard board examination will be accepted as long as the applicants do not reappear in any of the subjects for the exam in 2020.
- If an applicant has qualified the 12th standard examination in 2019 and intends to enhance his / her cumulative marks to reach the 75 percent increasing marks requirement (65 percent for ST / SC / PWD), then he/she will reappear for any number of subjects for enhancement. In this case, the interest score will be calculated by taking into account the marks earned for 2019 or 2020, whichever is higher in the corresponding subjects, in their two tries in 2019 and 2020.

What is taken into consideration in JEE Advanced counseling?
During JEE Advanced 2018 counseling, both the All India Rank (AIR) and the rank of the group will be regarded.
